Richard Westerlund Named Head Men's Basketball Coach

Richard Westerlund ROCHESTER, MN- Crossroads College Director of Athletics A.J. Carson announced today the hiring of Richard Westerlund as the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Westerlund graduated from Lancaster Bible College (Lancaster, PA) with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and Bible. Westerlund was the head boy’s basketball coach for 3 seasons at Harford Christian Academy in Darlington, MD. During his time at Harford, Westerlund took a diminished program and built it up to eventually winning the school’s first ever state championship finishing the 2012-13 season with a 24-6 final record. Westerlund was a 1st team NCCAA All-Region baseball player and an All-Conference soccer player at Lancaster, but admits that basketball is his favorite sport. “My passion is to impact lives through the game of basketball. I love the opportunity that sport gives to teach life lessons. I believe sports are merely a microcosm for life. It is my goal to impact my player’s lives not just as athletes, but as people, students, and Christians.”

Carson, Gipson Earn ACCA All-American Honors

Andy Carson  ROCHESTER, MN- Andy Carson and Eugene Gipson have been selected to the Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA) All-American team. Carson was named to the first team averaging 24 points, 13 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. Gipson was named to the second team averaging 17 points and 7 rebounds per game.  "This is an amazing accomplishment. Men's Basketball Players Volunteer at Youth Clinic

CHATFIELD, MN- The Crossroads College men's basketball team has not been shy this season when it comes to their involvment within the community. Recently several players have partnered with the Rochester Area Family YMCA to help run a youth basketball clinic at the Chatfield Elementary School. 

These clinics are designed to teach children the basic fundamentals of the game. Parents watch as their kids spend time going through multiple skill stations. It is a unique way for parents to spend time with their children. 

Andy Carson Hits 1,000 Career Points

ROCHESTER, MN- With a fade away jumper in the lane, Andy Carson scored the 1,000th point of his intercollegiate career on Tuesday night against AFLBS in a 65-55 conference win. Carson is averaging 24 points and 12 rebounds per game so far this season. "It feels great to reach the 1,000 point mark but this is not an individual accomplishment. I have had the pleasure of playing with a lot of great players who had made scoring that many points much easier."

Athletic Department Announces Corporate Partners

Men's Basketball Team Volunteers at Special Olympics Event

AUSTIN, MN-  The Crossroads College men's basketball team spent their Saturday volunteering at the Area 10 Special Olympics bowling event at Echo Lanes in Austin. Special Olympic athletes came from all over SE Minnestoa to compete in this event. 

Gus Pelaez Returns After Two Seasons Off

ROCHESTER, MN- Gus Pelaez will return to Crossroads for his Sophomore season of basketball. Pelaez played for the Knights during the 2009-10 season where he averaged 4 points 2 rebounds 4 assists and 2.1 steals per game. The Knights went 14-15 that season.

Knights Add Juco Transfer Eugene Gipson

ROCHESTER, MN- Eugene Gipson, a 6'5 215 lb. transfer from Mott Community College in Flint, MI will join the Knights for the 2012-13 basketball season. At Mott, Gipson was apart of the 2012 NJCAA II National Championship team who went 35-1 overall. No other school in division II has won four national championships.

Former NIAC MVP Andy Carson Returns

ROCHESTER, MN- Andy Carson will rejoin the Crossroads College men's basketball team for his junior season after sitting out the 2011-2012 school year. Carson played his sophmore season at Crossroads where he averaged 18.8 points and 12.3 rebounds per game and helping lead the Knights to a NIAC championship and a 20-10 overall record. Carson earned first team All-American honors as well as reciving the 2011 NIAC MVP award.

David Norris II Joins Coaching Staff

ROCHESTER, MN-  David Norris, a recent Cal State-L.A. grad, will join Coach Eric Perry on the men's basketball coaching staff at Crossroads College. Norris served as a student assistant coach at CSULA while finishing his degree in Communications. Norris played his senior year of basketball at NCAA II Cal State-L.A. where he averaged 12.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

  Cameron Catton Signs With Crossroads

ROCHESTER, MN- Cameron Catton, a 6’3 SG/PF from Melbourne Australia, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Crossroads College for the 2012-2013 season. While a Senior at Trinity International High School (Las Vegas, NV) Catton joined the world renowned Impact Basketball Academy.

  Knights Sign DeAndre Robinson

ROCHESTER, MN- DeAndre Robinson from Walnut Grove High School in Loganville, GA has signed a Letter of Intent to play basketball at Crossroads College. “Big D” averaged 5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block per game for the Warriors who won the 8AAA regional championship in the GHSA. The 6’3 power forward/ center helped lead the Warriors to a 24-3 overall record.
