During the junior or senior year, students complete a music internship. Professor Dunbar must approve internship sites. Internships are often completed during the summer before or after the senior year, but may also be done during the course of a semester in some cases.
The internship experience is designed to give students practical experience in music ministry or music industry. Arrangements for the internship should be made several months in advance, as acquiring the internship can be competitive. Professor Dunbar has information about churches and other organizations seeking student interns.
Music majors are encouraged to seek an internship under the guidance of a professional in the music industry (such as a music publishing business, school, or professional recording facility), or a full-time music minister in a church setting. Students may have to make arrangements at their own expense to travel and live away from campus during the internship experience. The internship may or may not be a paid position.
